What PSL means to Pakistan Cricket!

In Pakistan, Cricket is more than a sport. Every kid in Pakistan grows up in a household where people plan their chores according to the match timings. Most kids play cricket, and those who don’t play it, watch it religiously.

February 4, 2016 was a historic day in Pakistan as it marked the beginning of a new era of Pakistani cricket. The idea that was first conceived in 2012 finally turned into a reality. After years of speculation, when the dust finally settled and PSL made its way to our TV screens, the fans were thrilled, to say the least.

But mainly, it was the presence of big cricketing names in the league that upped the ante. While Shane Watson, Brad Haddin, and Sam Billings graced Islamabad United with their presence, it was the names like Kevin Pietorson, and Luke Wright that shone bright in Quetta Gladiators.

Peshawar Zalmi had the honor to have Darren Sammy, Dawid Malan, Tamim Iqbal that won hearts after lifting the PSL II trophy in front of the Lahori crowd. Big names like Kumar Sangakara, Chris Gayle, Mahela Jayawardene, and Ravi Bopara were included in the Karachi Kings team that made them the hot favorite of both the seasons, but unfortunately couldn’t deliver and lastly Lahore Qalandars had the privilege to play under the captaincy of Brendon McCullum.

Pakistan Super League Teams:

Imagine watching Usama Mir play with the likes of Kevin Pietersen in Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore. It wasn’t possible, but then Pakistan did the impossible. PSL initially started off with five teams; Lahore Qalanadars, Islamabad United, Karachi Kings, Quetta Gladiators, and Peshawar Zalmi. These five teams battled out in the first two seasons but Multan Sultans is all set to debut in the third edition of Pakistan Super League.

Pakistan Super League 2018 Schedule

The Third Edition of Pakistan Super League is scheduled to kick-start from 22nd February 2018 in Dubai where the matches will be played in Dubai and Sharjah. But the news that fans are absolutely thrilled about is that the final is going to be played in Karachi with a match or two in Lahore as well, as announced by Pakistan Cricket Board. (PCB)

In the season opener, the former champion Peshawar Zalmi will take on the last team to join the league Multan Sultans. This is also the first time Six teams will fight for glory instead of Five. In the total of 30 matches, each team will face each other twice in the league stage before moving forward to the play offs that will be played from March 18 onwards.

What’s surprisingly pleasant is that this season would be the first time the two play-off matches will be played on the Pakistani soil (i-e Lahore) and the final is all set to kick off in Karachi. Want to read the entire Schedule of PSL 2018? Head over here!

Pakistan Super League anthem

The Pakistani heartthrob Ali Zafar not only penned the lyrics of the PSL anthem but he also lent his voice for the anthem. You can’t deny the fact that everything Ali Zafar touches becomes popular, and as expected, the PSL anthem under him soon turned out to be super hit.

But Ali Zafar was confident from the very beginning. In an interview, he mentioned how there has been a lack of patriotic numbers, or more appropriately, catchy patriotic numbers and his latest anthem may start the trend. On spot, boy!
